At the young age of 23 years old, soprano Elizabeth Pope already possesses a clarity of tone, accuracy, and ease of vocal production which has been praised as “evoking the singers of the golden age.” In July 2024 she was reviewed by Impressio (dir) which wrote “the end of the summer edition of the Sofia Music Weeks festival was conquered by the rising world opera soprano Elizabeth Pope, who captivated the audience to tears and evoked a bouquet of emotions….”
In May of 2024 Ms. Pope had the honor of being a featured performer for the International Women’s Forum at Lincoln Center. In 2023, her outstanding performance of Waterbird by Richard Hundley inspired the unprecedented creation of an entirely new prize category in the Civic Morning Musicals competition in New York. In September of that same year, Ms. Pope was cast as an understudy for the world premiere of Kate Soper’s new opera, The Hunt. The unique multidisciplinary role of Rue required a performer who can simultaneously play violin and sing. She has sold out many recitals in the Festival de Axixic in Mexico in the Haus der Musik, and is engaged to return next summer. She recently made her Atlanta debut in a performance sponsored by the Atlanta Music Society.
Elizabeth has worked closely with contemporary musicians Lucy Shelton, Mark Stambaugh, and Susan Botti to premiere and bring to life multiple new works. She is not only known for her technically adept performances of operatic arias, but also for her musically exquisite interpretations of song and chamber music. Outside of singing, she has experience with arranging musical works. In the premiere of her chamber arrangement of Bachianas Brasileiras no.5, scored for guitar, piano, cello and voice, she was reviewed as having “achieved the heights of expressivity” (Voce di Meche).
Ms. Pope is continuing a legacy of three generations of professional musicians. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance at the Manhattan School of Music, under the tutelage of the renowned soprano Catherine Malfitano. Elizabeth is now a pupil of the celebrated Bulgarian-American bass, Valentin Peytchinov, a gifted pedagogue and technician to whom she gives her deepest gratitude.
